So that’s it? (Seasons)

No wonder seasons are free now they’re non existent. No seasonal activity no weekly story nothing. Man is this playerbase about to drop big time. The old system is so much better. One expansion a year and actual seasons with content is so much better. Seasonal content is what kept everyone playing. If Bungie thinks grinding power for armor is going to replace that they’re sadly mistaken.

  • Best way to describe the game now: it's about playing the game as long as possible instead of keeping the game fun enough to replay things as much as possible. Basically, farming is gone.

    People need to go back & watch the 2 podcasts from Jason Schrier & Jeff grubb after the 2nd layoff wave. It's all come as expected from THE only 2 trusted gaming journalists out there. As hard as it is to read, it's all fact. Both spoke to bungie & Sony high level staff (not sure how high but high enough to know this) The takeaways; Both agree destiny is in its death spiral, income & player retention drop year on year since shadowkeep, resulting in it not being sustainable so forced layoffs & future budget cuts. Staff told to 'work with what they already have', yes budget & staff is that low. Destiny will become a game you play once a week, or even once a month, not a game you play daily. Much lighter & less content over the year. No more seasonal story, maybe just 1 raid & 1 dungeon a year. Higher monetisation & grind to keep player hour retention & income high to make up for expected falloff of player base If marathon fails, theres a very high chance the studio disappears, Sony have made it very simple, marathon needs to be big or else. Now look at what we've got with edge of fate? 1 small planet with limited things to do, which will be dry in a week or so. Portal is all reused activities. Seasonal stuff is old strikes, no activity or story. Game is very grindy & tedious, the only content seemingly is to level up. It's very bare bones & we will absolutely see huge player loss in a month when things like borderlands & other new games drop. There's even a theory that keplar is what Luke smith was working on, payback, the sequel supposed to follow destiny 2. Bungie wanted lightfall to fail, to free up destiny players for marathon & payback was supposed to take the top 10% destiny pve players. The leaks said it was puzzle heavy, metroid like, difficulty options, raid & dungeon aesthetics & mechanics, not a typical destiny planet. This lines up with keplar,no? Puzzle heavy, metroid like,difficulty options, mechanic heavy, raid aesthetics, & explains why no public events, patrols, lost sectors, or sparrow usage, they were moving away from that stuff. Also falls into the use what you have instruction because he'd already built it before it was cancelled & he was let go. This would leave renegades being castlevania style (I think thats the word, idk what it is) & heavily forced on coop play & communication. This was the rest of the payback leak. Also explains the portal & keplar not being on the director as portal was supposed to be a new game front page which they've tacked onto D2. I'd very extremely worried about the future now & id expect big player loss this year, potentially making another year not viable as a business, especially if marathon fails. If it keeps going, I think in 2 years when they've added new things to portal, portal will become D3 lite almost, & they'll drop the base game & sell it as a standalone experience like D1 (if they get that far).         • Think about this the echoes cost around 36cnd and we got 6 new activities 3 semi campaigns few 3 exotic missions 3exotic armours now edge of fate we got no new activities just a raid and 1 campaign with 3exotic armours and what 3 exotics for 50cnd mmmmmm didn’t bungie tell use these dlc would be the size of rise of iron let’s see what that had 3 new strikes 4 PvP maps a campaign like 4 exotic weapons 6 exotic amours and a raid edge of fate isn’t even half the content of rise of iron.

Seasonal activities and storylines release during mid season updates now in between expansions. Seasons are essentially slop most of the time with activities like menagerie copy 3 and totally not strikes version 4. Granted the last battlegrounds were all very good and almost indistinguishable from strikes. Nether was also pretty good. All other seasonal activities last year were garbage. Hopefully ash and iron brings permanent content untouched portal like strikes, solo ops and pinnacle ops.

          It's ok Bungie will now add all that past paid season content and just recycle it to the free to play crowd as new content in portal hoping to sell micro transactions

          • They are not free guardian. Its 10 bucks if you want that premium reward pass. Basically it feels Bungie is just going to milk the free to play crowd by recycling old content for the portal while they buy stuff in Eververse. * Raid itself looks extremely fun though not counting the contest mode. Sidenote: A tier 1 gear item for a contest clear!? GLADD I passed lol

              • I don’t know how people don’t get the economics of this. Minimum investment. That’s the key here. They have us run all those old activities. They gave us this new portal and the challenges, which are essentially bounties, to give us a sense of progression. But there’s not a lot of content. All the World Tier stuff and whatnot is just the campaign again. It’s just obvious they wanted to make this cheap.

              • the season "Reclamation" is selling for 1000 silver...is it just for the reward pass? usually we got seasonal story, seasonal activities like the nether or court of blades, exotic mission...etc

                • Was it? I think it’s early to judge. We have two expansions this year, plus major updates like ash and iron. Yeah rn the games feels rough around the edges, but that is to be expected 2 weeks after a reset of that magnitude, they definitely have a long list of stuff to work on, but as far as I’m concerned, even if I’m not pleased with all the changes, the games feels more fresh than it was. I never cared about the seasonal story arc, the Nether was ok, Court of blade not so much. And the meta was getting a bit stale, arc titan with stronghold and flash counter in GM, Warlock and geomag… other than the cosmetics, once you had a couple great builds, and triple hundred stat there were no real reason to farm anything else. The new stats system needs tweaking still but I already prefer it to the previous one. The possibility to increase damages and regen by going over 100 really brings back the kids inside me who just want to play around with builds to find powerful combo. Again, it’s been out 2 weeks only, but I like it so far.

                    First, seasons are gone—now episodes too. There will be no major content like "The Pale Heart" anymore. From now on, two narrative packages every six months. It was announced by Bungie. Nevertheless, I'm glad I can continue with Destiny 2, even differently. I don't like everything, the item expiration or the Portal, but there are still some friends and good memories still left. Edit: That's important for me. If I couldn't see something positive in the game, I couldn't play it. And for the rest, I "shake it off." And by the way... Michael Salvatori's back, working on Renegades.

                    What I'll never understand is how the Destiny franchise still is doing good in comparison to much superior games, such as Swtor. Swtor had, from launch, ten times more content than the Destiny franchise ever will have, eight long and voiced story-lines and a way bigger universe. This game is really leaning on it being a FPS - because that's the only thing it got going for itself.

                    • Also the old systems too. Little grind for power level. And craftable weapons. When they removed crafting from season of the revanat, the season after eco I completed the season pass and quit. No crafting meant I will not chase the seasonal weapons. I’ll get one roll and a few engrams and quit. Why? Because it’s to much grind for weapons that are mediocre. Some could be really good but I don’t want to grind for a chance to get the roll. I want the roll. I grinded prophecy and never got the roll I wanted in the pulse. But I did get my nullify adept with the roll I wanted. The grind was real. Burnout is real. And crafting almost removed it for me because it meant I could get all of the guns and be ready for anything. I felt like I could always make a new weapon and try a new build or diffent potential. Now I see a gun with a whole list of perks and go. Ooh there’s the best roll, but I need to grind for weeks to maybe get the right roll. To many perks on guns that are absolutely useless and only one or two combos that are intended. For example heal clip incandescent, that is a perfect roll. I don’t want Crappy weak guns. Also the 6 month reset will kill the game.

                      • They covered this in some past TWID's and dev insights you can find in the news/updates catagory. Reduced dev team manpower and resources and smaller expansions. I'm just enjoying it for it is and will play other games when I get bored.
