Dear Bungie Team,
I share this open letter as just one more Guardian among millions—but one who is deeply grateful and emotionally invested in the universe you've created. With the conclusion of the Light and Darkness Saga in The Final Shape, you have reached an unprecedented milestone in the history of video games—both narratively and technically. The emotional, philosophical, and symbolic complexity of this saga, combined with its ever-evolving gameplay, makes it (in my humble opinion) a modern masterpiece that deserves to be preserved and celebrated in its entirety. And with its closure comes a powerful question: How do we preserve the legacy that has shaped an entire generation of players?
For more than a decade, Destiny has not been just a sci-fi shooter—it has been a fully immersive experience:
The title screens always changed to reflect the expansion or campaign’s theme: from The Taken King and Rise of Iron, to the Red War, Shadowkeep, the cold glow of Beyond Light, and finally, the open Traveler in The Final Shape.
Each of these moments was accompanied by distinctive and powerful musical scores (such as Journey, The Last Array, Deep Stone Lullaby, or Salvation)—music that reached beyond gameplay and touched us on a deeply emotional level.
The fall of the original Tower, the death of Cayde-6, Uldren Sov’s betrayal, the rise of the Witch Queen, the existential threat of the Witness—these are unforgettable moments etched into the collective memory of the player base.
Seasonal events like The Dawning, Crimson Days, Guardian Games, and more were not just limited-time content—they were signs of life in a world we shared.
This level of attention to detail, atmosphere, and story deserves to be honored and preserved. For this reason, many players in the community are suggesting the following:
○ Proposal: Destiny – “The Light & Darkness Saga”
A standalone, rebuilt experience that compiles, enhances, and preserves the entire narrative and gameplay journey from Destiny 1 to The Final Shape.
This is not just a repackaging suggestion. We’re proposing a project that would:
- Faithfully rebuild campaigns and activities with visual and technical upgrades.
- Let players experience all content in a freely chosen, yet coherent order.
- Integrate ALL exotic quests, seasonal content, raids, dungeons, gear, and subclass evolutions from every era.
- Bring back vaulted destinations like Titan, Io, Mars, Mercury, and the Tangled Shore—unlocked progressively as the story unfolds.
Offer, in addition to solo play, an offline and LAN/host-based cooperative mode, retaining the social essence of Destiny without server dependency.
And above all: a game that is playable forever. Because Destiny’s story deserves not only to be remembered—but to be relived, again and again.
We also propose that this Destiny experience be built, if possible, on a refined or updated engine, capable of:
- Enhanced dynamic lighting and modern visual fidelity.
- Restructured user interfaces to streamline legacy systems.
- Subtle narrative cohesion improvements for long-term clarity and lore consistency.
- Refreshed character models for icons like Zavala, Mara Sov, Elsie Bray, Ikora Rey, and Drifter.
- Restoration and reimagining of iconic lost content like Zero Hour, Whisper of the Worm, Leviathan, Prison of Elders, or Court of Oryx.
This wouldn’t be a port—it would be a full reconstruction, lovingly adapted for modern hardware, allowing future generations of Guardians to experience it at its best.
This proposal also resonates with the goals of the European movement “Stop Killing Games”, which advocates for the end of destroying video games once support ends. Destiny has already suffered from partial content loss—expansions and experiences players once paid for are now inaccessible.
But there is still time to turn that loss into an opportunity: to enshrine Destiny as the legacy it deserves to be.
A project like Destiny: The Light & Darkness Saga would not only honor the players—it would honor your own incredible work. Because Bungie created more than a game—you created a shared story, a living saga, a modern myth.
○ Suggested Titles:
Destiny: The Light & Darkness Saga
Destiny: Legacy
Destiny: Aeternum
This is not merely a technical or commercial proposal. And it is not a letter born of nostalgia—it is a vision. The vision of a definitive title that rebuilds the complete Destiny saga using today’s capabilities, free from the constraints of servers or licensing.
A game that ensures what you've built does not fade away—but instead becomes eternal.
Because Bungie didn’t just create a game. You created a story that deserves to be told—again, and again.
With admiration, respect, and faith in your vision,
Kill

Most of what you suggest would already be there, no need to re-add it or make anything new. If only they just kept all the content we had paid for over the years. If only they hadn't switched from 'Box Product' (meaning, I make an awesome game, a product that I am proud to sell to you, which you will be able to play as much and as how long as you like) to 'Live Service' (meaning, I don't need to make anything new, or awesome anymore, I have become a parasite where you have to pay and pay and keep paying just to stay in the game. Oh, and let's not forget the micro transactions!) And sorry, but while your idea is great on paper, it's never gonna happen. As for the end of your post, they are not worth of 'admiration'. 'Respect' has to be earned, and they are doing a very poor job at that. And they have no 'vision' other than corporate greed. But, hey, we can all close our eyes and keep on dreaming....

While your idea is nice from a business and development point its just not feasible. The financial costs alone would be high and it would need to be re sold to make that money back. Bungie no longer have the devs needed for something like that while supporting two other games. And a lot of the now vaulted is so far gone its unplayable even for bungie. While yes I'm all for game preservation in cases like this its just not reasonable or viable to make outdated and vaulted counted accessible again.

I think a more feasible option would be to bring back key story missions from past seasons that players could access on the timeline. This way players could still have a more complete experience of the light and dark saga compared to what we have now.
-
That would be awesome. I imagine any fan would support that idea. Unfortunately, I don't know who would be willing (and able) to fund something like that.

I would love destiny 1 with mantling.

Concur. However you might as well try and get blood out of a stone instead as you might have a better chance than getting Bungie to do this. 😞
