Clan Recruitment

Look for Clans or seek new members.

Hello clan leaders let’s talk. I’m just looking

I have a total of 37+ community members. It’s getting harder and harder to recruit when people don’t wanna be social or helpful. Pretty frustrating when you’re tryna run a clan that socializes and will pitch in to talk or help each other. Let’s talk about something real quick. You grow your community, your clan, you do great and then it all goes downhill. It gets worse and worse and sometimes makes you either disband or wanna say: “what am I doing with my life?” At the end of the day we’re all just members of the community only sitting with certain people because we all have personalities, different quirks and perks, and whatnot. It’s more or less when you invite people into your community to make sure they fit. But it’s not always the case since it’s on both ends. Either you, the clan recruiter just invite people without reading what they’re looking for or the invitees don’t read what the clan expects So what was the point of this post? Well if you got the bottom you would see that I am not looking to merge or anything at all. In fact, I won’t ever do so. Doing public tests like these show if you as a recruiter care what people say. So let’s see how this social experiment goes

I feel this. It often feels like a gamble when I recruit. I try to only reach out to people who are looking for what my group offers, and I'm always open to chatting about it. But lately, it feels like someone will join, look around for a few minutes, not speak or engage, and then leave, or they will get mad when they didn't read what we're about and leave because we didn't offer what they were looking for. Over the years ive built up a group im happy with but growing that group now? New People dont feel as genuine as it once was and maybe that is just the internet or the way the d2 community is now but it feels sad. Also? Thank you for this. Its given some replies that vent frustrations i thought only I had.

        • I read your post carefully, and while I know it got a range of reactions, I want to give you a sincere and level-headed response because you raised some important points. First off, I respect that you’re trying to lead a clan with purpose — not just to have numbers on a roster, but to build something social, helpful, and consistent. I know you already have a relatively active clan, which makes your post stand out even more. It seems like your frustration isn’t just about activity levels, but also about the quality of that engagement — the lack of mutual effort and people not showing up for each other the way you'd expect in a genuine community. You mentioned the mismatch that occurs when recruiters fail to understand what players are looking for, or when players overlook what the clan stands for. That hit home. I think many of us see this happening — people simply dropping their clan tag under any post that says “LFG,” regardless of compatibility, or players joining clans without learning about the vibe or expectations. It’s transactional and honestly demoralizing when you’re trying to build something real. To that point, I’d even add that what we’re seeing might be less about bad recruiting and more about a kind of clan hopping without engagement. People jump around not because they’re flaky, necessarily, but because the community culture in Destiny has shifted. The player base is shrinking, and with burnout creeping in — both from the game and social fatigue — people aren’t investing as they used to. And yeah, it shows. Folks join, don’t speak, maybe run one raid, and then vanish. That cycle takes a toll on leaders trying to foster something meaningful. I’ve avoided chasing numbers. My clan fills a specific need — we play during certain hours, we have defined expectations, and we’re not trying to be everything to everyone. So I don’t send out invitations unless someone really seems like they’d be a good fit. But I get why some people do — they’re feeling the population dip and grasping at any chance to keep the energy up. Also, and this is on me — I want to apologize for not replying in our Discord when you asked about the raid. I didn’t see the message until after the run was already over, and I genuinely felt bad about that. It wasn’t intentional; it was just poor timing on my part. All in all, I think your post was less about running a "test" and more about asking: who’s really paying attention? And that’s fair. You’re not just venting — you’re confronting the slow erosion of what used to make clans feel like homes instead of holding tanks.

            • The first thing I’d like to say is thanks for stepping out of the forums shadow and saying something personal that I’m sure is on a lot of clan admin’s minds, I know it’s constantly on mine. Secondly anyone that boohoos’s this post has just given up on being a decent human. Shame Been doing this since 2015 and whilst I’m not the best leader/admin around by any means I certainly have had almost every experience a small time (sub 60) clan leader can have, some great some not so great and a lot of tedium mixed up in between. With the diminishing population I think most are finding it very hard to attract the right and correct people for there clan type. My clans not a full sweat exp for example, we have a mixed bag from highly skilled to new but my main target is to find those looking for laughs and jokes, social fun and making friends. that’s not for everyone, some are about the full grind and that’s fine and some treat the clan like an LFG which I guess is also fine, but for me and my clan especially… clans are for making friends and I try my hardest to tell people what the clans about but that doesn’t stop people joining without those ideals. Then I blame myself and have to consider the fact that I’m too eager to fill spots as the process is so slow and getting responses from DM’s is like gettin blood from the stone…and if I ask too many questions are they just gonna say ‘aaahh feck ya clan’ lol. There are plenty of things that annoy me about recruiting, and admin in general. posts without timezones for example and sending out 15 messages a day without a reply but this is the job and I do it gladly for the chance to find new people to play with and bring into a community. It’s genuinely one of the best feelings I have playing this game when I hear/see a group of strangers vibing that I’ve managed to wrangle together, I just wish it was a bit easier at times.

What they state in their post can be, and often is, completely inaccurate. I mean, hardly anyone is going to admit that they intend on joining for the freebies and will literally do nothing. It happens in all clans, what you have described. They all have those who join and don't get involved. Those who join say hello, then leave because they've had no reply after 2 minutes. And ofc, let's not forget those who join a clan only to LFG every session. There's literally nothing you can do. I've literally just returned after 18 months away from the game, and I see the same people, typing the same thing, trying to recruit. Pretty much says it all.

                • I joined the Wolfpack clan around Kingsfall in D1.. within days was an admin and by November of that year, all 4 clans were offered to me to continue to run while those running the 4 all called to the military services. I ran those clans for years, reducing it to two but, having over 5k members between them. D2 came and that number instantly fell by half. its been bleeding out for years and by last year only a handful of dedicated players remained. It was harder and harder to find players to play with and other gave up trying. I ended up leaving and joining another clan, the one I am in now and I have been an admin here too. More and more people are quitting because Bungie is mailing it in. Changing backend numbers instead of providing things to do. I don't need to complete Kingsfall for the 100th time with another new load out.. Old campaign missions and dungeons etc.. all with new weapons and armour but, its the exact same encounters. Bungie used to play games THEY wanted to play, it is evident now that many of them DO NOT play their own game and now their customers arn't either. I am not a fan of Bungie the company and its politics, I love the game.. the direction of the game has been down hill for several years and the weight of bad decisions is on those players -blam!- and their shoulders.. at some point.. those shoulders won't carry the weight. Seriously don't know how much more the community will take.
