Genuinely what happened to just having a good ol’time when doing basic activities?
The whole base difficulty bump up is widely regarded as bad.

Edited by Mephistic: 5/31/2025 4:36:29 PMI may be wrong in this assumption, but i'm thinking this is in reference to the Dreadnought (Sh^tnought as i like to call it) The place is obnoxious and not really that fun. Especially when every single quest step in everything we do sends us back in there. FFS, there's really no build diversity in that hell hole. I can see that being the biggest issue. I took a few months break from D2 because I got tired of the place. Come back just to spend the last 3 days doing stuff in there to get the Barrow Dyad catalyst and all the obnoxious quests done in the place. Come on Bungie, do better. I know you felt the need to waste money on that new travesty project but it doesn't mean you needed to hit D2 with lackluster ideas and expect the playerbase to enjoy it.

Edited by Joulevette12: 5/31/2025 4:30:27 PMI honestly think they need to just do D3 because this game needs an overhaul now due the past mistakes and they are finally catching up to it and driving more players off the bringing them. IMO the thing that is hurting this game most is balancing between Pvp and PvE it worked fine soo far but it's starting to show some major issue now especially how much PvE been improving over the years with the constant nerfs and buffs each season is actually holding both modes back. I seriously think Bungie needs to find a way to actually separate both modes because this thin line idea hurting both modes especially long term.

Ok I don't mean this disrespectfully but it's a skill and build issue the game is actually quite easy with enough time. If your dying to easy try playing more safely and run 100 resilience. Next move around slide and use cover. As for weapons ask around on what's worth getting and do some collecting.
-
could you point out what is hard? ive been carrying people to places lately as im done with basicly everything.

Edited by DJ: 5/30/2025 7:21:35 PMI understand that difficulty is subjective to the player, so without invalidating your stance, I feel that D2 has progressively gotten easier as the game evolves for myself.

It's the light caps... regardless of how much time you invest you don't get stronger...most of the numbers are functionality useless they only exist to make you think you're making progress but you're not...it's a practiced psychological hook...

Examples?

The problem with your post is the wording. Saying something is "difficult" will only draw out the people who have nothing better to do than boast about their "triumphs" in a video game. Objectively, this game has become more tedious in recent years for all players, with the average and below average players being more affected than above average players. This is evident in the fact that everything is now above our level, making enemies take less damage per shot and deal more per shot. Also, the fact that crafting is no longer in the seasonal content makes people tired of chasing the few weapons they actually care about. It's funny, I'm starting to see people say that Edge of Fate is basically D3 because of the armor changes and the tier system for weapons. My argument is that these are the systems that should have been in D2 from the start, or at least with Forsaken when they reverted back to random rolls. This is essentially sunsetting 2.0 and everyone who was so against the first time are miraculously fine with it now.

Agree… definitely needs to be easier
-
Because Bungie wanted players to treat Destiny as a job, not as a hobby. They think we have hours and hours of free time to play and dedicate time to longer and more complex activities, whereas many of us just want to relieve some daily stresses by blasting aliens and having some fun. I just don’t have the energy to spend on lengthy gameplay. Sorry.

I don't usually blame content creators for stuff that occurs in the game but even I gotta admit it was kinda suspicious how around the time of lightfall, which is where the game difficulty jumped, all the CCs were asking for harder pve stuff or making base activities a little more difficult so they can actually test builds and make videos off it and such. There were a few who asked for it but it was mainly the "prestigious" ones and dare I say even Datto was a part of it only a tiny bit though, and that's not meant to be hateful in any way. Also doesn't help that I personally believe most of it was also from people wanting more challenging gameplay but didn't feel like changing games out since for some reason it's taboo to quit destiny and play a different game, even a more challenging one at that to feed our needs. So they in turn basically turned destiny which used to be a chill game into what they wanted it to be and forcing others to cooperate or quit on their own. To clarify this is all personal opinion and there is no reasoning behind it at all so don't take it seriously. That being said I do still agree with you that the game needs to go back to being chill when you want it to be and still have the high tier activities for those who want the challenge. Heck the game needs to go back in general to where it was actually fun and didn't feel like a chore doing everything in day to day logging in and such. It's straight up almost feeling like a gacha/daily log in game with the endgame being absolutely abysmal and nothing but hp inflation.

Lightfall ruined destiny in a big way for many, a MASSIVE difficulty increase across the board in everything and now we have like 20+ builds for each subclass that you ideally want to learn to maximize your damage or you'll be shafting yourself. It's way too complex and needlessly difficult.
-
It's not hard. We have power crept everything.
-
Every game is the same now, eevs pander to the best players and streamers as they get free wow marketing, and these people also spend money in the fame buying pointless shitvto look good
-
What? You and many other who left don't like the increase in difficulty? OK, I am with you on that. Fun AND Engaging AND Rewarding; is what should be the focus for the dev team. Yes there should be harder difficulty levels for those that enjoy that challenge in game. Absolutely we need that, but the base game and base level story missions, should not be a slog fest for average players. Bungie does not get it. In light fall they made the game so hard and so focused on the DEV's social agenda that they lost a ton of players. Bungie has continued with the same "Harder is better" mentality. They are catering to the elite players base and streamers. Just look at who they invited to come to the studio to play the next expansion ahead of release; streamers! Bungie does not care about making the game feel fun or rewarding for the average player.
-
it's just like what happened to the video game division 2 the game became so much harder because the company behind it they refused to balance the game. Things improved once they added additional mods builds and take take -blam!- away like Bungie lol. It's how streamers want it to be harder content to them means more things to stream even though not everyone is here for that. If you call them out on that nothing but fragile ego threats.
-
It’s not
-
It’s one of the reasons that I barely play any more. I fired up Explorer mode for Spire and still couldn’t get anywhere.
-
Returning player here, i took a year off and came back for this season. I have done all the endgame content in this game, except for what I missed of course. Even guilded Conqueror title 12 times. The Vespers Host final boss DPS phase is the worst designed crap I've ever seen in this game.
-
So before I make my response, can I ask if there's anything specific this is in reference to? What are we saying is too hard? I think everyone agrees that there should be options for people to play harder content, so if we're talking about like upper levels of difficulty or things like raids and dungeons that are meant to be hard, I think we're gonna find some disagreement here on a base level. I think it's very important for a discussion like this that we frame what sort of activities we are talking about for that reason.
-
Ya, Bungie likes to tell us what to run and how to run now. Control freaks have destroyed the game
-
Because they want to reward build crafting. Because it incentivized grinding and increase play time.
-
God forbid we ACTUALLY have hard content in the game...

You’re joking right? This game holds your hand so much it’s almost harder to do badly than it is to do well. -
Terrible bait

It’s not that it’s “hard”, it’s that it goes from incredibly easy to incredibly hard with hardly anything in between. At least as a solo player. I can imagine Grandmasters are fun with a couple of mates but I am woefully short of the skill level needed to solo them. I’ve tried. Standard nightfalls though are a doddle.
