It’s Not a crossover — But people have reason to criticize.

Bungie specifically stated that this is a destiny story, in the Destiny universe with Destiny characters. They are just heavily leaning into the aesthetic inspiration of Star Wars. We are not playing a Star Wars story. We are playing a destiny story. They were very clear about this in the preview. ——————————————————————————————————————— With that said, there are a couple reasons that people are having a negative reaction this. First, After recent projects these past few years, people are getting sick of Star Wars. Second, When Destiny first came out, it felt like a fresh take on the fantasy sci-fi genre. As the team called the story “mythic sci-fi.” It was a breath of fresh air that filled us with wonder and questions. It was a whole new universe to explore. People are wanting that feeling back as they’ve gotten tired of some of the factions. It’s why the Dread were a welcome change So directly using the siren, the Han Solo blaster, and a lightsaber doesn’t leave the impression that the studio is being creative. It leaves a bad taste in their mouths that reminds them of the shallow marketing of Fortnite. I get wanting to go back to the roots of what inspired Destiny. But you don’t do that by focusing on one specific source and replicating it, you either A. look at what inspired them. In the case of Star Wars - Westerns, Samurai films, fantasy, and Flash Gordon. Then do a new interpretation from there. B. Go look back at the multiple core sources of inspiration of Destiny. However, we’ve hardly seen anything so it really is too soon to say much of anything on Renegades. All I’m saying that when a fan base is craving something new - maybe don’t focus on a franchise that people are sick of.

  • People absolutely have reason and ability to criticize. Other people have the same reason to call that criticism stupid when it is. If more of the criticisms were like this post, and less "ItS fOrTnItE" and less "ThEyRe TuRnInG iT iN tO sTaR wArS!" then I'm guessing the general dialogue would be a bit different. Alas, complaints/worries/issues like the ones you listed are few and far between and we've got a bunch of people who know what windows taste like banging on their keyboards about fortnite.
