Returning to D2 after months of inactivity and how Bungie can fix that
This is going to be my longest post yet. So to whomever reads this, grab some food and a drink, or whatever to get yourself through reading this. Here we go:
I stopped playing Destiny 2 right around when the Moon bunker opened. I had realized it had become a bounty simulator and needed to quit. It was making me miserable. So I quit the game and focused on finishing university and playing other games that felt good to play. Thankfully right around the time I quit, Borderlands 3 was getting a new DLC and I played that for quite some time. It was great. Then a big update for BL3 came and its kinda bad, at least in the endgame. Thankfully, Gearbox quickly responded and has plans to fix it. Plus they have free content coming soon (take some notes Bungie). I did keep up with Destiny 2 news and updates, just to stay in the loop. I heard about Guardian Games and felt so relieved that I had left the game. That was a -blam!-ing disaster. Never do that again Bungie. Complete shitshow. Then it ended and eventually The Lie community quest began, again another disaster. 9 million Bungie??!!! Seriously?!? Did you even consider how big of a number that is in comparison to your active player population?! I digress. You did fix it at least.....only for all the following steps to be another grindfest and for the last step to be bugged. God what a literal mess it is. Again, I digress. With the current events going on in the world, I decided to give the game another chance. I loaded up and felt weird, like visiting a good old friend after having a heated argument from months ago. After "beginning" the Lie quest, I saw I had to go kill enemies with shotguns and immediately shut the game off. Is this all you can do Bungie? The same -blam!-ing type of quest each time? Shoot bad guys with x type of gun until bar is filled? Its not fun. Its boring. I know Feltwinter's Lie is probably worth getting, just for the gun itself. But the content itself, the actual thing I would be doing to get the gun is bad. So if someone from Bungie is reading this, here is how to fix that: stop the seasonal content crap. Listen to someone like Darkside Royalty Lore. Take the time to make a Rise of Iron size expansion, and then in the Fall, release a Taken King size expansion. Obviously you won't be able to do this for 2020. But maybe 2021 or at least 2022? I want to love this game again. I want to stay up late playing it, going into uncharted territory and finding secrets. I want to do raids and get loot that will actually matter. I want to just play it and feel like my time is being rewarded. I was a Bungie fan in the old Halo days and followed you into the unknown with Destiny. And now I left you because you have been going down the wrong path. Its fine if you need time to make a good expansion. Take that time. Just remember that there are people like me who want to play again, but have felt alienated because of the seasonal pass style of content. I'm fine with a $30 Rise of Iron type expansion. And I would be even more fine with a $40 Taken King type expansion. Just make the content worth playing and no season pass crap. Alright I think I got my point across, if you got this far, thank you. And to the Bungie person reading this, please don't take it too hard. I just needed to vent, to be 100% honest and blunt, and to have my opinion be heard. Hopefully I will see myself in the Sol system once more. Take care of yourselves.
