Husk of the pit?

So i recently got the husk of the pit and have been trying to upgrade it but im still abit confused on how to do so. Do i have to strictly kill just Hive Knights? Or can i kill any type of Hive? Also, how many kills of which does it take to upgrade this damn thing.

If to get your upgrade it says kill knights then yes only knights. I recommend finding a grinding spot or just getting a different husk.
