well there was a steep drop in players due to the lack of PVE for which they purchased this game for.
PVP was to just test your metal against other guardians, not be the center of the game. if they did not leave PVE behind like they did with TTK but in turn keep all PVP current with the game it might have the same playerbase it did a year ago.
