In year 1 we had legends.
Everyday there would pop up a new post to the forums about the allmighty Gjallarhorn which players gave numerous nicknames. Those who had it never imagined a day they would dismantle it. And many still havent.
And why did Gjallarhorn achieve its legendary status? Because it had character. It had power. It had those kinda charasteristics every player in the solar system wanted to have. And those who didnt have spent weeks or even months hunting it.
Icebreaker became a soloist's must have number 1 weapon of choice. Yes, you could solo a nightfall with that beast of a weapon, but it forced you to think your strategy all over again. It would take and hour or two to carefully pick your spots and you could take the enemy by surprise every time. Which was a lifesaver with those days you didnt have any friends online. And it even gave you a nice change of pace playing a strike that is normally run trough guns blazing. Icebreaker had character, its remembered by its couching sound when trigger was pulled.
Blackhammer was a friend of the icebreaker, whenever you needed the exotic slot for a job you would replace the Icebreaker with Blackhammer. You didnt -blam!- that bitch Crota in the ass for nothing. You pulled a beast of a weapon out of there! It was precision shots for days for skilled players and without reloading too. If there would be one single thing why players endured the uncanny behavior of Crota; Sometimes chasing players to the crystal room, Swords dropping trough floor and sometimes kneeling whenever the bastard liked. It was the hope of getting the blackhammer.
Fatebringer: Was the one handed beauty that lighted up the love for the hand cannons in the first place! Never before had you a chance to melt down a pack of thralls with a single pull from a trigger! And that sweet sound too that it made! And on top of that, this beast of a weapon was a precious memory from the single best raid in the game. The vault of glass.
Those legends amongst others were something that put a good flavor to the game, something to look for, something to remember for.
Year 2?
Havent heard much of a praising words about any of the weapons. Touch of Malice? Yes its a beast in the raid.. But thats about it. Telesto? It has a certain character but something is still off.. Black spindle? Its a shadow of the blackhammer and it takes up an exotic slot too.. What about Y2 legendary weapons? I cant remember a single name to be honest. The raid MG is decent.
