If it was useful and had some benefit for any length of time then it was not a waste of time.
Bro look at starburst.. Takes ages to peel the paper for a tiny chew! All that grinding for minimal reward!

Nice try but... To make your analogy work, A starburst would have to take a day and a half to unwrap and melt 4 inches before it got to your mouth.
