Edited by Vgnut: 7/27/2015 6:44:40 AMThe first Gears had that "Holy shit I can't believe this is a game" vibe going for it. 2 was really great. 3 was more of a refinement. 1 and then 2 were really something in 2006 and 2008. As we got into the latter half of last gen the punch of Gears started to diminish. 3 was great because it was a refinement of earlier games. It didn't have the wow factor though. When Judgement came around at the end of last gen the franchise was exhausted. I have my theories as to why. In 2006 there was no experience like Gears. By 2013 you could see the influence of Gears everywhere. Other games were doing the cover based shooter thing just fine in addition to have better graphics, story, and more features. Gears kept refining but it never really left 2006.

Memories of butthurt hosts in Gears 1, bridge hosting matches in Gears 2, and punching faces in in Gears 3. Good times.

2 Replies3 Judgement, 2, 1. I enjoyed the weapons in 3 had the best written plot. I am VERY sad The Coalition didn't hire Karen Traviss for 4. Judgement was the campy spinoff, but I enjoyed it. The UIR guns were fun, Baird was max cheeky bastard, and Overrun was really fun. 2 had some of the best setpieces, but holy shit was the writing bad. It took Karen 2 books to fix the problems in that game. 1 is good, but I played it last and a lot of the splendor from it was lost with the aging of the graphics. GoW 4 is one of the games I'm sad to miss out on switching from the 360 to PS4.

Gears 1 gave me the most memories, but I think gears 3 perfected the formula that started with the original.

Gears of war was a wow moment for me, at the time it was fantastic!

I had the most fun with gears 2 and it was the biggest step up to me but gears 3 takes the cake

1 ReplyI played the first one so many times, it was one my first games for 360. I played the second one multiplayer the most, and the third one was alright. Really hard to decide between 1 and 2. Judgement I barely touched

3 RepliesI liked them all tbh. Gears 2 was my favourite overall though 3 was good too. I am looking forward to revisiting Gears again when Ultimate edition comes out as the beta was a blast and plays more like 3 than the original Gears. I like the look of Gears 4 and I am excited to play it.
