Bethesda hasn't actually specified. They keep saying 200 years (meaning 2077; same time as F3), but I think there is still a confusion on whether or not Bethesda is giving a "general" time or it literally takes place at the same time as F3.

Fallout 3 was set 200 hundred years after the bombs fell. During the e3 press conference for fallout 4 todd howard said fallout 4 takes place 200 years after the bombs fall. So roughly the same time but I'm thinking it's set may be a decade or two after the events of fallout 3 because it looked to be more grown in so that would mean cleaner water

I heard its about 15 years after, but thats a rumor.
