There are probably monitors that support RGB or Component, but why bother? XB1 and PS4 give you HDMI cables when you buy the system.

No, you understood correctly. It's just I have never used a monitor for gaming for Xbox One or PS4. My computer doesn't have an HDMI port though, so wasn't sure if that was a must have, I wanted to give it a try.
You can bypass the computer altogether and hook the monitor up directly to your console.
I assume you know this, but around here you can't always assume.
