How are exotic bounties different than Weeklies?

Because the drops are still random in weeklies.

In Nightfall yes. The Weekly Heroic guarantees Strange Coins, which is the currency Xur accepts.

You can't afk through an exotic bounty.

Interesting take on it. You can't afk through a weekly strike either, unless someone carries you; that said, you can be carried through every part of every exotic bounty also. So the Exotic bounties are equally prone to abuse as the Weekly bounties.
